FAQ — Invoicing in Austria

Is this invoice generator legal to use in Austria?+

Yes. Austrian VAT law (UStG) requires invoices with specific content. KipBill produces UStG-compliant PDFs when you include UID, sequential number, supply date, and VAT breakdown.

What USt rate should I use on my invoices?+

Austria's standard USt rate is 20%. Reduced 10% (food, books, newspapers, accommodation, culture). Second reduced 13% (plants, live animals, domestic flights, some cultural services). Zero-rated: exports and intra-EU B2B.

Do I need to register for USt before issuing invoices in Austria?+

VAT registration is mandatory for turnover above €35,000 (Kleinunternehmer regime ends). Below threshold, registration is voluntary with corresponding input VAT claim rights.

What information must every invoice include in Austria?+

UStG §11 requires: supplier and customer full details, UID (supplier always, customer for >€10,000 or intra-EU), date, sequential number, description, supply date, net by rate, USt rate and amount, gross total.

Can I issue invoices in a currency other than EUR?+

Yes. Austrian invoices can be in any currency, VAT amount must also appear in EUR. Intra-EU B2B uses reverse charge.

Austrian law requires retention of invoices for 7 years (BAO §132), or 22 years for property-related invoices.
