Is this invoice generator legal to use in Mexico?+
Mexico requires electronic invoicing (CFDI 4.0) via the SAT for all tax-valid invoices. KipBill's PDF is suitable as a human-readable representation (representación impresa); the official XML/CFDI must be stamped through a SAT-authorized PAC. Use KipBill's PDF alongside your CFDI system.
What IVA rate should I use on my invoices?+
Mexico's standard IVA rate is 16%. A reduced 8% rate applies to the northern and southern border regions. A 0% rate applies to basic food, medicines, and exports. Some supplies are exempt (education, medical services, land). Override the rate per item as needed.
Do I need to register for IVA before issuing invoices in Mexico?+
You register for RFC with the SAT before starting business activity and issuing CFDIs. Freelancers (régimen de actividades profesionales, RESICO) and companies generally charge IVA from day one. RESICO offers simplified tax rates for qualifying individuals.
What information must every invoice include in Mexico?+
CFDI 4.0 requires: supplier name, RFC, fiscal regime; customer name, RFC, postal code, CFDI use; folio and serie; issue date and place; currency and exchange rate; description, quantity, unit price, subtotal, IVA, ISR retention (if applicable), and total. The XML must be stamped by a PAC.
Can I issue invoices in a currency other than MXN?+
Yes. CFDIs can be issued in USD or other currencies, but the exchange rate to MXN at issue date must be shown. The IVA amount in MXN must also be calculated. KipBill supports MXN plus 30+ currencies.
How long do I have to keep invoice records in Mexico?+
Mexican law requires CFDIs and related accounting records to be retained for 5 years (Código Fiscal de la Federación, Art. 30). Electronic storage via the PAC or SAT Portal is standard.
