Euro invoice FAQ

Can I legally issue an invoice in Euro?+

Yes. Euro is the standard currency for invoicing anywhere in the Eurozone. Non-Eurozone businesses regularly invoice in EUR for EU cross-border trade, with reverse-charge rules for B2B intra-EU supplies.

What tax rate should I put on a Euro invoice?+

The VAT rate depends on the country of supply, not the currency. Germany 19%, France 20%, Spain 21%, Italy 22%, Ireland 23%, Netherlands 21%, Portugal 23%, Belgium 21%. Use the destination country's rate for B2C; for intra-EU B2B supplies use reverse charge (no VAT on your invoice).

Where does the € sign go on the invoice — before or after the amount?+

The € sign goes either before or after the amount depending on local convention — Spain/Italy/Ireland: €1.000,00 or €1,000.00 before; Germany/Austria/Netherlands: 1.000,00 € or 1.000,00€ after. Both are valid. Decimals and thousands separators also vary.

Do I have to show the Euro equivalent of the tax?+

Only if you invoice in a non-EUR currency to a Eurozone customer. In that case the VAT amount must also be shown in EUR at the ECB reference exchange rate. An EUR-native invoice needs no conversion.

Can I convert this invoice to another currency later?+

Yes. KipBill supports 30+ currencies; duplicate the invoice and pick the new currency. For mixed-currency clients, keep the invoice number prefix consistent and add a language/currency suffix.
