South Korean Won invoice FAQ

Can I legally issue an invoice in South Korean Won?+

Korean businesses issue tax invoices (세금계산서) for B2B transactions — must be electronic (e-Tax Invoice) for most businesses. Foreign-currency domestic invoices are allowed with KRW equivalent required for the tax amount.

What tax rate should I put on a South Korean Won invoice?+

Standard VAT is 10%, flat across most goods and services. Zero-rated: exports, international transport. Exempt: basic food, medical, education, financial services.

Where does the ₩ sign go on the invoice — before or after the amount?+

The ₩ sign goes BEFORE the amount: ₩10,000. KRW has no decimals in practice — amounts are whole integers. Large amounts commonly written in units of 만 (10,000) or 억 (100 million).

Do I have to show the South Korean Won equivalent of the tax?+

Yes. For foreign-currency invoices, KRW equivalent of the VAT (10%) is required using the Bank of Korea reference rate at the invoice date.

Can I convert this invoice to another currency later?+

Yes. KipBill supports KRW and 30+ currencies. Many Korean exporters invoice USD to North American clients and KRW domestically.
