Polish Złoty invoice FAQ
Can I legally issue an invoice in Polish Złoty?+
Yes. Polish VAT-registered businesses invoice in PLN for domestic transactions. Structured e-invoicing via KSeF is being rolled out — currently voluntary, mandatory phase coming. Foreign-currency invoices require PLN equivalent of the VAT at NBP rate.
What tax rate should I put on a Polish Złoty invoice?+
Standard VAT 23%. Reduced 8% (residential construction, some agricultural products, public transport), 5% (books, basic food, baby products). 0% for exports and intra-EU supplies. Exempt: medical, education, financial services.
Where does the zł sign go on the invoice — before or after the amount?+
The zł sign goes AFTER the amount in Polish convention: 1 000,00 zł. Polish uses space as thousands separator and comma as decimal. Non-breaking space is common to keep "zł" attached to the number.
Do I have to show the Polish Złoty equivalent of the tax?+
Yes. For non-PLN invoices, the VAT amount must be shown in PLN using the NBP (National Bank of Poland) reference rate from the day before the tax obligation arises.
Can I convert this invoice to another currency later?+
Yes. KipBill supports PLN and 30+ currencies. Many Polish businesses invoice EUR for EU clients and PLN domestically.
