What is a purchase order?
A purchase order (PO) is the document a buyer sends to a supplier to order goods or services. It lists what you want, how many, at what price, and when and where it should be delivered. Once the supplier accepts it, both sides refer to it — and the supplier's invoice should quote the PO number.
POs help you control spending, avoid disputes over prices and quantities, and check each supplier invoice against what you actually ordered.
